Technology Ideas

  • Have students create a map of their room, house or classroom in KidPix, Pixie, Tuxpaint or another drawing tool.
  • Use Neighborhood Map Machine to create a giant printed map of your community / town / neighborhood. Use the activities as a class to increase students' map skills.
  • Use the eraser tool in KidPix to find the hidden pictures, just like things are hidden in the Adele & Simon book.
  • Have students work in pairs to draw a picture in KidPix or Pixie with some hidden items. See if the class can find the hidden items.
  • Take a walking tour of your neighborhood. Take along a digital camera. Take pictures of students at various places in the neighborhood/community. Assemble into a class slideshow with sentences dictated by the students.
  • Invite parents in to share about their careers and how they help the community. Take a digital picture of each child with their parent/guardian and assemble into a career day slideshow / multimedia book.
  • In KidPix or Pixie, have students find pictures that represent different community helpers, their tools, and places of work. Stamp on a page. Have them tell the class or a partner about their picture.
