Technology Ideas

  • Create a classroom multimedia catalog of Bible parables. Include student illustrations or digital pictures. Share in church!
  • Have students work in groups to act out parables. Connect to another class via Skype or a similar tool. Act out parables and see if the other class can guess which parable it is.
  • Choose a parable from the Bible that illustrates God's love and salvation. Create a skit, and video it. Show it at church.
  • Read the story to the class, and then have students write a sentence about one thing they remember from the story and illustrate. These pictures can then be scanned and used in creating a video online with Animoto.
  • Have student work in pairs to illustrate (with digital pictures, KidPix, Pixie, TuxPaint or drawings) a poem of their choice.
  • Use Google Earth with the whole class to trace the route of Paddle-To-The-Sea.
  • Make a slideshow or Kidspiration concept map of all the animals and people that Paddle met on his journey to the sea.
  • Have students work in small groups to memorize poems from A Child’s Garden of Verses. Connect with another class via Skype or similar software. Trade off reciting poetry to each other.
  • Have students make a video of them acting out the story about the boy and his boat and then another one of them acting out a parable and see how the two are similar.

Non-technology ideas, field trips, author/expert visits, community resources and ideas, etc.
  • Twice Yours makes a wonderful choral reading for a "special music" for a church service. We used: 2 narrators, (one for the main story and one for the story inside the story), the boy, the grandfather, and the two boys from the story inside the story. The readers stand in front with a mic and their books. Scattered around the sanctuary are all the other students with their copies open for the congregation to see the pictures as the story is read from up front. Have the class memorize the text at the end of the book and recite it in unison to finish the reading.
